 There
are few casino games which attract the crowds in the
same way that Craps does. Full of energy, it's fast
and furious, making it many peoples favorite game. Initially
it looks very complicated and can be intimidating, but
it is actually a very simple game to learn and play.
On the first roll of the dice, the shooter (player
throwing the dice) is trying to establish a 'point'.
This done by rolling either a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The
first roll of the dice is called the 'come out roll'.
If the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12 then the wager is
lost. These numbers are known as Craps, from which the
name of the game is taken. If the shooter throws a 7
or 11, the wager is paid off at even money. If the shooter
rolls a point number, then he/she has to continue to
roll the dice until they roll the same number again
(known as 'making the point'), before they roll a 7.
There are several ways of betting on a Craps game.
These bets are placed on the Craps table as pictured
above and are open to both the shooter and other players
not rolling the dice. The bets that can be placed are
as follows:
The Pass Line Bet
This is a bet that the shooter will throw either a point
number, a 7 or an 11 on the come out roll (first roll
of the dice).
Don't Pass Line Bet
An opposite bet to that of the Pass Line Bet, it is
placed against the shooter and wins if Craps (2, 3 or
12) are thrown on the come out roll, or if the shooter
fails to make the point. If the shooter makes their
point before rolling Craps, then this bet will be lost.
Come Bet
This is the same as the Pass Line Bet, except that they
can be made at anytime after the come out roll.
Don't Come Bet
This is the same as the Don't Pass Line Bet, except
that they can be made anytime after the come out roll.
Proposition Bet
These are all bets that are wagered on the outcome of
one roll of the dice.
Win Bet
The stake can be placed on either a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or
a 10. The bet is that your chosen number will be thrown
before a 7.
Lose Bet
The stake can be placed on either a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or
a 10. A Lose Bet is the opposite of a Win Bet, with
players betting that a 7 will be thrown before the number
on which they placed their bet.
Field Bet
This is a one roll bet. If a 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 is thrown,
you win even money. If a 2 or a 12 is thrown, you win
2 to 1. However, if any other number is thrown, you
lose.
Hardway Bet
The Hardway Bet is one of the most difficult to win
in a game of Craps. It can be placed on a 4, 6, 8 or
10. The bet is that the number on which the stake was
placed will be thrown using doubles (two 3s equaling
6, for example) before a 7 is thrown, or before that
number is thrown using another combination.
